The DIET

The DIET is centred around optimising health and is designed to give your body what it needs nutritionally and eliminates most, if not all, of what it doesn’t. It is the diet I use to regain my health and rebuild my body.

It’s not a diet that one thinks of whenever the word diet is mentioned in that it’s not restrictive.

  • NO calorie counting
  • NO points system, where ‘treats’ are saved for the weekend
  • NO colour coding
  • NO need to eat three meals a day

Just listen to your body and eat when you are hungry.

  • Simple and easy to follow
  • Eat what you want
  • Eat as much as you want
  • Eat when you want
  • Eat as often as you like

So long as the foods consumed are on the list of permitted foods.

Permitted Foods

The permitted foods are what I term as ‘real foods’ and are very satiating, leaving you feeling fuller for longer. Because of this it is very difficult to over eat and you will become accustomed to eating less food, less often. You will be giving your body more than enough to fuel you through everyday tasks. I see it more as a permanent lifestyle change rather than a diet and I’m confident anyone reaping the benefits will see it the same way.

Food is Fuel

The concept of eating or feeding is simply to provide the body with fuel for which it can convert to energy as and when it requires it, any excess fuel is stored in tissue for later use. As a society we lead very sedentary lives, compared to our ancestors and we require less fuel on a daily basis. But because food is so readily available 24/7, the average person consumes way more than they need, often eating just for pleasure, so excess fuel remains unused. It is stored as fat around the body for use at a later date, which never materialises, leading to permanent fat storage. The less a person does physically the less fuel (food) the body needs; the more they do, the more they need. It’s a very sound concept and one that needs to be followed to maintain a healthy weight and lifestyle.

90% of Illness is Lifestyle Related

Human health is a very complex issue and can be determined pre-conception. I believe that the majority of people are born relatively healthy, and our journey toward poor health and physical degeneration, especially becoming overweight or even obese, is a result of lifestyle choices. Being obese has now been recognised by the NHS as the second biggest risk factor, behind smoking, for developing cancer and just being overweight can be a pre-cursor for so many other lifestyle related illnesses.

It’s a fact that 98% of illness is lifestyle related. Habits are formed during childhood, so these choices can be made by parents and carried forward into adulthood. Habits can be formed by the individual throughout the various stages of life.

The body needs certain nutrients, vitamins and minerals, amongst many other things such as clean air, sunlight, activity, rest, sleep, etc. every day to function optimally. If it doesn’t get what it requires, or too much of what it doesn’t, over a prolonged period of time, the body will begin to deteriorate. Everything that enters the body affects how if functions. We live in a toxic world, from the polluted air we breathe to the toxic chemicals found in just about every man-made material we come into contact with on a daily basis. All we can do to help protect our health is try to limit the absorption of as many toxins as possible. Although there is little we can do about the environmental pollution we have become accustomed to, we can at least help ourselves by monitoring what we absorb through the gut.

‘Give the body what it needs and it will heal itself’

This was a quote I came across which resonated with me, while I was searching for answers to my health problems. I believe that this diet can go a long way to helping restore, or certainly improve almost anyone’s health and wellbeing, as well as the loss of a considerable amount of weight if so desired.

I believe consuming this diet, as I have since my mid forties, has reversed my health issues and continuing with it is a major factor in my continued good health and physical appearance. ‘Real’ food is medicine.
